NFT Collector Destroys CryptoPunk Worth $135K

During the unfamiliar act of NFT-wrapping, an NFT enthusiast bungled his way into sending a $135k CryptoPunk treasure to a burn address, forever vanishing it from the realm of circulation.

Here's What We Know:

  • The NFT collector that accidently burned CryptoPunk #685 purchased the digital asset on March 13 as a "long-term" investment.

  • Brandon Riley was hoping to acquire more NFTs by acquiring the Punk through wrapping.

  • Inexperience with the wrapping process led to an irreversible disaster, and a humongous loss of ETH.

  • According to Riley, the NFT was also made using borrowed funds. Welp.
