Vatican Library Preserves Manuscripts with NFTs

The Vatican Library—one of the world's oldest—is using NFTs to preserve its manuscript collection, offering unique digital rewards to donors and social media supporters.

• Donors will receive non-transferable Soulbound NFTs that grant access to the library's manuscripts, with different levels of access based on their support.

• This initiative is in collaboration with NTT DATA Italia, which has been aiding in the digital conservation of the library’s assets since 2014.

• The project aims to grow the Vatican Library’s online community, leveraging Web3 technology to connect with supporters, starting with users in Italy.

• Beyond NFTs, the Vatican Library envisions creating immersive experiences for viewing historic assets through extended reality, broadening access to its cultural heritage.

Paris Match Auctions 75 Historic Photos as NFTs

Paris Match—the iconic French magazine—is auctioning 75 historic photos of celebrities as Ethereum NFTs to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

• Each NFT will come with a numbered and signed physical print of the same image, bridging digital and traditional collecting.

• The photos feature cultural icons like The Rolling Stones, Jack Nicholson, Orson Welles, and John Travolta, alongside significant historical events such as the Berlin Wall and the Tour de France.

• Starting bids for each photo will begin at 0.3 ETH (around $1,062), with the auction conducted in partnership with Focus Bloc and SuperRare.

• NFT owners will receive full digital license rights to the photos, while Paris Match retains all other rights associated with the images.

John Gerrad's NFT Art Tackles Climate Change

John Gerrad's ‘Crystalline Work’ addresses climate change by generating new NFT art hourly for a year. Released on Feral File, it is the longest-running on-chain performance art project.

• Unlike Gerrard's previous critical works, this project offers a positive outlook on humanity's potential to combat climate change through artistic expression.

• Utilizing the WebGL browser API, the project brings each piece to life with immersive, interactive 3D graphics.

• Each piece is minted as an NFT on the Ethereum blockchain, with a portion of sales supporting rainforest restoration in Ireland.

• Gerrard emphasizes the importance of data in contemporary art, positioning Crystalline Work as a data-centric piece that addresses the critical issue of climate change.
