NFT Sales Skyrocket in 2023

After a devastating second half in 2022, the 7-day volume of NFT sales in the first week of 2023 is finally perking up, according to data from DappRadar.

Here's what we know:

  • The NFT sales volume this past week is up by $200 million.

  • OpenSea alone saw a 40% upsurge in NFT trade volumes from January 1 – January 8.

  • The report suggests that there are 400,000 NFT buyers.

  • Ethereum and the BAYC community led most NFT sales.

  • Ethereum sales also surged by 14.84%, with a 24% increase in buyers.

Moonbirds Signs Deal with UTA

The Bluechip NFT project Moonbirds are hoping to fly high the year by the brand becoming recognized on a global scale rather than just in the Web3 space.

To hit its target, Moonbirds have signed a representation deal with a major talent agent in Hollywood, United Talent Agency (UTA).

Here's what we know:

  • With more than 1,400 strong individuals behind the agency's film, video games, music, and television, UTA has what it takes to put the Moonbirds brand under the limelight.

  • UTA will work on PROOF’s behalf (the team behind Moonbirds) to help “vet, broker, and execute partnerships and expansion opportunities across a variety of fields.”

  • To date, the OG NFT project has generated around $619.5 million worth of secondary sales - placing the owls as the 11th highest-selling collection on the NFT market.

  • Like Bored Ape Yacht Club, we look forward to randomly seeing the brand while on our travels rather than just on OpenSea.

The Web3 world is never full of surprises. Even the top dogs in the sphere cannot steer clear of hackers.

This week, RTFKT COO Nikhil Gopalani became an NFT heist victim.

Here's what we know:

  • Gopalani is the head of operations at RTFKT, which Nike acquired back in December 2021.

  • The digital assets stolen in the hack include 19 Clone Xs, 11 Crypto Kicks, 18 RTFKT Space Pods, among others.

  • In total, around 84 NFTs were stolen, worth approximately $173k.

  • The NFT icon still needs to determine how the hacker could steal such goods. However, collectors must never disclose any personal information that could gain wallet access.

WARNING: NFT Pokémon Game Infects Players With Malware

It's not been a great month for our favorite childhood game, Pokémon.

Just one week ago, Pokémon took legal action against the NFT game, Pokéworld. Now, a fake NFT version of the Japanese pocket monsters are infecting people's computers with malware.

Here's what we know:

  • Hackers are using a duped Pokemon NFT trading card site to conduct phishing attacks on unsuspecting victims.

  • Once installed, the game deploys the NetSupport remote access tool (RAT).

  • Hackers can control victims' devices using the tool, allowing them to steal data or install other malware.

  • The installer runs as usual; therefore, it looks extremely unsuspicious.
